How To Avoid Vacuum Pump Scaling?
Jun 20, 2018

Circulating water quality and operating temperature exceeding a certain level are the main causes of vacuum pump fouling. Among water quality indicators, the hardness of water is the most important. For this reason, the hardness of the water must be reduced as much as possible, and the operating temperature of the circulating water must be controlled in order to solve the scaling problem of the vacuum pump.

Cooling water hardness

The operation of the circulating water in the vacuum pump is very similar to the operation of the pot water in the low pressure hot water boiler. Therefore, managing the quality of the vacuum pump in accordance with the water boiler water quality standard can prevent the scaling of the vacuum pump and prevent the vacuum pump from corroding.

Most vacuum pump circulating water systems are open-type circulating systems, and the rate of return water is relatively high. In the case of water treatment not using ion exchange equipment due to capital or other reasons, a softened water tank and a high water tank are generally used to supply water to the vacuum pump.

Cooling water temperature control

From the above analysis, it can be seen that the difference between the water ring temperature in the vacuum pump and the softened water temperature in the pool is an important factor that leads to scaling. Therefore, increasing the circulating water supply to increase the cooling effect is an important guarantee for minimizing the fouling rate.

Therefore, during the operation of the circulating cooling water, it is necessary to monitor the return water temperature and the water return amount of each pump to ensure that the normal water supply of each pump and the return water temperature do not exceed 40°C. The amount of water supply can be controlled by valves. If the return water temperature exceeds the regulation, cold water or low-temperature cooling must be used to reduce the temperature of the softened water in the softened water pool.

Rinse the pump regularly

The pump body drain gate valve of the water ring type vacuum pump, in addition to being used to normally discharge the accumulated water in the pump, can also use the water pressure of the pump body to periodically flush the dirt and water slag in the pump during operation, on the one hand, it can prevent dirt accumulation. On the other hand, it can also prevent the conversion of water dregs into scale.

The fouling problem of vacuum pumps has its more complicated generating mechanism. Correct analysis of water quality indicators and operating parameters is the key to finding correct preventive measures. In addition to water temperature control and regular flushing of the pump, water treatment is the most important part of preventing pump scaling.
